Avery Corley: 100,000 pages on Judge Brett Kavanaugh are being withheld from senate

Summary:
The Trump White House, just days before Supreme Court’s confirmation hearings with Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, have decided to withhold information about judge Kavanaugh’s time as a lawyer for former president George W. Bush. The White House took use of the Executive Privilege Act, which allows the ability to prevent other branches of government from gaining sensitive information on the Executive Branch. People are responding negatively to this decision to withhold possibly important information about Judge Kavanaugh from the Senate, and from the public.

Analysis:
This article was written on September 1st by Sheryl Gay Stolberg who writes for The New York Times. The article seems to be unbiased and is just bringing forth the facts. The article included other points of view from different political figures including Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, and other senate democrats who stated “this was the first time that a sitting president has exerted Executive Privilege under the Presidential Records Act in order to prevent documents from going to Congress during a Supreme Court confirmation process”. I believe this statement to be important because no other president has withheld information in this way before. William A. Burck, Mr. Bush’s lawyer has expressed that the pages on Judge Kavanaugh only contain “candid advice concerning the selection and nomination of judicial candidates”, and “advice sent directly to President Bush”. However, with there being over 100,000 pages it is hard to believe that was the only thing being discussed. In summary I believe that the Trump administration has yet again withheld possibly vital information from the public and other branches of government, and as a citizen of the United States I believe that we have the right to be in the know.
