Alaska’s Permafrost is Thawing
Described as “a freezer turning into a refrigerator”, there is no doubt that Alaska’s sub-Arctic climate is gradually slipping away and into the grasp of global warming. One thing that has felt the big consequences of climate change is the Alaskan permafrost. The permafrost has abundant amounts of carbon in the dead organic matter and when thawed it relases carbon dioxide and methane which adds to the endless cycle. If the Earth’s permafrost continues to melt at this rate, the temperature will rise above freezing by 2050.
I have researched the topic of global warming many times and I know a good amount of information. Knowing this, it does not surprise me that the world’s permafrost is melting. Global warming affects everyone, whether you believe in it or not. This article is obviouly trying to show that climate change is real and the effect is has on the environment. This historically ties into when we first started burning fossil fuels, cutting down forests, etc. because the #1 cause of climate change is human influence.
every time i hear about climate change, i get a little more upset. there is little to no significant action being taken to remedy this problem and it needs to change. more people need to be educated on climate change and what that means so that they have real motivation to stop it.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Larsen that every time climate change is mentioned i just don;t understand how people can deny it. there is so much solid evidence that the world is warming, so why can't we pull together and do something about it already?
