Adam Rippon and Gus Kenworthy are the first openly gay winter Olympians. A picture was posted on Friday of the two with words for Mike Pence, “Eat your heart out”. Mike Pence had signed a law allowing business owners to not let the LGBT community into their business if that’s what they chose, but he ended up preventing so from happening. Pence wanted and interview with Rippon but Rippon declined due to Pence’s anti-lgbt beliefs.
I think that with the world we live in today, it is amazing how these two can be so brave and open about their sexualities. It’s even more amazing for them to take a firm stand against someone who’s of such a high status. This should be a leading example for everyon to stand up for what they believe is right and never back down. When Billie Jean King cane out, she lost professional endorsements so it amazes me how Adam Rippon and Gus Kenworthy are being so open. I think it's great that they were able to open up about their sexuality and stand up for what they believe by not speaking to Pence. They are setting a good example in my opinion because it seems like they'd stand up for what they believe in, no matter what.
