In the wake of the mass shooting, students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High school have been attending their classmates funerals. Meadow Pollack on Friday, Joaquin Oliver on Saturday, and the day this article was written, Monday for Alaina Petty. Three more will be on Tuesday and one more on Wednesday. many of the teenagers have commented about how this is their first funeral or this is the first time they have been to funeral for someone their age. Lewis Mizen said that when an older family member dies, it natural for the child or the grandchild speak about them, but when the parents have to eulogize their child, cuts deep, emotionally. “Seeing a father freak out, I hope I never have to see something like that again,”. In some of the funerals the family mentions Nikolas Cruz, the gunman. Father of Meadow Pollack addresses him directly, stating, 'You killed my daughter!". Mother of Alyssa Alhadeff addresses politicians about tighter gun control laws.
It's still hard to believe that the shooting that killed 17 people was last week. And yet no matter how hard these parents, friends, the public cry, nothing is being done. The families will even incorporate political ignition into their child's eulogies just so someone  will listen.
This article can be related back the making of the Bill of Rights, a document that Thomas Jefferson believed was necessary in order the keep the Declaration of Independence constitutional. The 2nd Amendment is the right to bear arms, making it legal to keep firearms. However our Founding Fathers were not thinking that this amendment would protect mass shooters. The second amendment was not made with the intent of AR-15's being used to shoot down children.

  1. it really struck me that parents are having to politicize their eulogies for their children. first of all, no parent should ever have to witness their child's funeral and second of all, they should by no means have to include politics in a day that is meant to grieve and remember. It's honorable that they're using this tragic event to make a difference for all of us, but i wish we lived in a world where they didn't have to.
