School Shootings Put Teachers in New Role as Human Shields
"Across the country, teachers are grappling with how their roles have expanded, from educator and counselor to bodyguard and protector. They wonder if their classrooms are properly equipped, if they would recognize the signs of a dangerous student, and most of all, if they are prepared to jump in front of a bullet."
The number of school shootings have greatly increased. The number of deaths due to school shootings have also increased. Parents send their children to school with the expectation that thier student will be in a safe learing environment. Teachers go to school with the expectation that they will go teach students in a safe learning environment. However, the tables have turned. Teachers are fighting to be able to bring bats and golf clubs to class for protection. They are coming up with precautionary plans in the case of a shooting. One teacher stated that they only had fire drills when he was in school. Now there are school shooting drills.
It is so sad to see a change like this. I find it very sad that teachers and students don't have the opportunity to be completely be safe in their schools. However, I do think that it is very admirable that teachers are taking acion and precautions.

I agree, I think it's just tragic that this is what it has come to, but at least someone is taking the necessary precautions.
