A woman testified as guilty today in a court case involving the kidnapping of her “daughter” in 1998. The story as released now is that she was posing as a nurse in the Florida hospital when she walked into the new mother’s room. She asked her to place the baby on a table, and when she did so, the kidnapper instead put it into a carriage and walked out of the still weak patient’s room. Alexis was raised by this woman for 19 years, and has just met her birth parents for the first time this week.
This event for me is a tragedy. Motherhood is a pride and a responsibility, and for such a wonderful thing to be taken away in an instant is almost monsterous to me. Alexis has even said that she feels no connection to her birth parent, and that she will always love her “mom”. It’s unfair for her to have to suddenly stop excepting this woman as her mother, however it is also extremely difficult for the birth parents to except it as well. My heart goes out to them this Valentine’s Day, as I don’t think they’re going to be finding much love around this situation. As of now, the convicted is facing up to 22 years in prison. If she had not testified, it would’ve been life. I can only hope she gets what the judge feels is just.

This is incredibly unfortunate for everyone involved. I can't believe that the birth parents didn't start an investigation sooner to find their missing daughter. It must be so difficult for the daughter to know that her "mom" actually kidnapped her, but still love her as a mother.
ReplyDeleteWow that story is horrible. To imagine that my mom isn't my real mother, or that if I have a child someday would be raised by someone else is shocking and too hard to think about.

This story makes me very very sad. Could you imagine being raised by someone who wasn't your parent who kidnapped you?

ReplyDeleteWow, I can't even imagine how the child must feel. She must be so torn between feeling betrayed by her "mother", but also loving her unconditionally; and she must feel a strong connection to her birth parents as well. This situation is a painful experience for everyone involved, and I only hope that it's resolved peacefully and lovingly.
I can’t imagine the conflicting feelings of Alexis right now. The fact that this woman so easily took a child is crazy to me. Security must be improved upon.
ReplyDeleteIt's terrible that now she can't see her actual parents as her parents and then the fact that woman kidnapped that child is insane to me. Having a baby is so special and to just be so comfortable with taking one that isn't yours is crazy to me.
ReplyDeleteThis is actually very creepy. Why would someone STEAL a baby. And how on Earth did she JUST get caught for this crime?
ReplyDeleteThis makes me sad because motherhood is this beautiful experience and for this woman to take this mother's child is WRONG. How could you do that to a person?
