Trump Tweet Angers Survivors of Parkland Shooting

Survivors of the Parkland, Florida, shooting were understandably upset after President Donald Trump linked the FBI’s failure to follow a report on the school shooter and the resources for the Russia Investigation. On Saturday, Trump tweeted, "Very sad that the FBI missed all of the many signals sent out by the Florida school shooter. This is not acceptable. They are spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign - there is no collusion. Get back to the basics and make us all proud!" Several students responded with tweets like, "17 of my classmates are gone. That's 17 futures, 17 children, and 17 friends stolen. But you're right, it always has to be about you. How silly of me to forget. #neveragain.” Students are all in agreement that as the president, one is supposed to bring this nation together, not divide us. “Children are dying and their blood is on your hands because of that.”
President Trump consistently turns to Twitter in attempts to face our nation’s problems, however publishes tweets that do quite the opposite. Like students said, our President should be working to bring the country together rather than tear us apart. With a party that controls both the House and Senate, it’s time for Trump to take action and save some lives.

  1. Synthesis: Can you compare this mass shooting or the President's reaction to another event in U.S. history? What do you think can and should be done to prevent another mass shooting?
