European scientists are have recently been trying to develop blood and urine tests for autism, which could lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment of the condition. These tests locate damage to certain proteins, shown to be higher in children with autism. The team from the University of Warwick and the University of Bologna tested thirty-eight children with autism and thirty-one children without.
They looked for differences in samples of blood and urine between the two groups. When observing these groups, they noticed the children with autism had greater protein damage, resulting in higher levels of an oxidation marker known as ditryosine and sugar-modified compounds called advanced glycation end-products.
I love being able to read things like this, for it makes me feel like there is a potential future for this decaying world. I hope this team's efforts end up being successful, for this could lead to a cure, or prevention of autism:).
