The Axeman of New Orleans Preyed on Italian Immigrants - Smithsonian
https://apple.news/Afh93d3KBRh6W5BF3PLFekg

This article outlines briefly the history of the Axeman of New Orleans and the many murders attributed to him in the early twentieth century and the many misconceptions of said murders due to both an ignorance of serial killers and racial discrimination against Italian Americans. It goes on to explain how the blame was often pushed onto Italian immigrants because of racial profiling, thinking that Italians were nothing short of either active or dormant criminals, which had some origin of truth because many Italians brought with them to America suspicion of authority figures, thus often were disputes addressed with knife fights and other duels.

I relate this to the Sacco-Vanzetti case of 1920, which criminalized two Italian Americans for killing to factory employees, without any facts against them and most likely turned to them for the blame because they were Italian immigrants and anarchists, both widely undesirable by most Protestant Anglo-Saxon Americans. I think the article demonstrates well the reality and characteristics associated as Italians settled in America, largely in the French Quarter of New Orleans for work
