As we all know another deadly shooting occurred this past Wednesday at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The shooter was a 19 year old orphan named Nikolas Cruz who invoked fear in the heart's and eyes of the Parkland, Florida residents. Cruz had always been fascinated with guns and knives and sometimes he even introduced himself as a 'school shooter'. He was no ordinary child, he battled sickness and mental illnesses such as depression which had been heightened by the death of his adopted parents. After the shooting, Cruz went to Subway, Walmart, and McDonalds, but was finally caught walking through the streets of a neighborhood.
After listening to people talk about their experiences, I am so shocked at how real this event was. The boy looked like a student, so no amount of security would have really even helped because he did it so easily, and almost casually that more preparation couldn't have really stopped the damage. Even though he had depression, I don't think that in any way justifies his behavior. So many kids these days take exuberant amounts of pills for basically no reason. It is claimed for anxiety and depression, but the fact of the matter is, every time something bad goes wrong you can't just blame it on a mental disease and pop a pill. You have to face it and overcome the problem through other ways of coping such as athletics or the arts. Obviously Cruz was troubled, but shooting innocent people because you're mad at the world is the most selfish thing you could do.

This is very terrible and it is so unfathomable what happened. I don’t think he will have success in pleading insanity because nothing can justify what he did
ReplyDeleteWhat he did was unacceptable, he killed innocent people for no reason. Nothing can justify the extent of his actions.
ReplyDeleteThis was so sad and scary. I can't imagine how these families are feeling. There is nothing anyone could say to make this ok.
