Summary:
Earlier this week, the Catalonian people voted to separate from Spain at 90%
This was met by negative responses of the Spanish police, who attacked protestors with guns holding rubber bullets. Around 893 were injured, yet no one died in the attack. This vote has led to a political crisis in Spain, where most Catalans are calling for the European Union to mediate the split. Yet, the EU has sided with Madrid, stating that the vote was illegal.
Analysis: It's very interesting to me how instead of using lead or metal bullets, the Spanish government opted to use rubber, so as not to fatally wound anyone. I wonder if this article is foreshadowing a Catalan revolution, since the circumstances of separation efforts seem similar to the United States.

I think that this vote will almost surely lead to a conflict in Spain due to the extreme differences between both sides of this issue and their unwillingness to yield or compromise. If this does turn into a civil war, I will be interested to see what side the United States takes, if we take a side at all. I am also worried because I am not sure our president is fit to handle violent conflict like what we would see in a civil war, and that sort of event makes a huge impact on the world.
