Authorities believe that they have found the body of a missing 3-year-old from Richardson, Texas. The girl, Sherin Mathews, disappeared on October 7th. Her adoptive father, Wesley Mathews, left her outside at 3 a.m. by a tree in an alleyway (which is frequently visited by coyotes) because she didn't drink her milk(she was getting fed at 3 a.m. due to her malnourishment from her past family in India). Her adoptive mother, Sini Mathews, was asleep at this time. Wesley then checked on Sherin 15 minutes later, as he says, and she was gone. He didn't call the police until 5 hours later. Sherin's body was found near their house. Wesley Mathews was arrested for child abandonment. He was later released, but now wears an ankle monitor around his house.
This article was written by FOX News earlier today. This informs the public about recent happenings in Texas, especially. This also shows how NOT to treat your child. Leaving her outside? At three in the morning? For not drinking MILK. I find this insane.

This is absolutely insane how this poor child was found. And the fact that her adoptive father could not realize his child was gone is incredible.
ReplyDeleteThis just goes to show that some people don’t have enough common sense to take care of a child. It is astounding to hear that a father, even an adoptive one, would leave their child outside and forget.
ReplyDeleteWhy was he released?! What good is an ankle monitor going to do? I think this is crazy, and so sad. He should have called as soon as he noticed that Sherin was gone. (he shouldn't have put her outside in the first place!)
ReplyDeleteAs an Indian growing up with Indian parents, this act of leaving someone outside as a punishment isn't all that surprising to me. I can relate because I don't think the father meant any harm in this punishment; but even then, it's still wrong. I can't imagine the guilt he must be feeling. And poor girl:(
