on april third the panama papers were leaked. they were leaked a panama based law firm releasing the confidential documents. this released the information of how some of the world's richest people pool their money into secretive shell companies. some papers date back all the way to the 1970's. the documents were leaked to a german newspaper. "john doe" (the person who leaked the papers" describes his action as proving income inequality. he wanted the injustices to be available to the public. this is a huge stepping stone for data journalism.
throughout the years there has been an assortment of political scandals. due to the fact that the politicians are always in the public eye, more dirt is usually dug up about them since there is so much to learn. this is similar to when Nixon withheld the tapes which made him look even more guilty of the watergate scandal.
