North Korea launches missile from submarine, South Korea says-- Demi Tomasides

On Saturday, North Korea fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile, a missile launched straight from a submarine, which has apparently always been a priority for North Korea. The missile was launched on Saturday and although it was far from its target mark of 186 miles (it only got 19 miles), North Korea would still call it a success. North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un says, "The test-fire was aimed to confirm the stability of the underwater ballistic launching system in the maximum depth of waters." With each new test they learn more and get closer to their goal of a dominant nuclear program. Besides, this launch seemed to go much better than previous.
One U.S. official said that it "was provocative but not a threat to the U.S. and the missile was fired away from South Korea and Japan."
John Kirby said that, "Launches using ballistic missile technology are a clear violation of multiple U.N. Security Council resolutions."
"We call on North Korea to refrain from actions that further destabilize the region and focus instead on taking concrete steps toward fulfilling its commitments and international obligations.
"The United States remains steadfast in its commitments to the defense of its allies. We will continue to coordinate closely with the ROK, Japan, and other allies and partners."

Flash back to 1950 when the US aided the South during the Korean Civil War. The US entered the war to enact their policy of containment: to leave communism where it was but to keep it from spreading. By the end of the war, they ended up with the 38th parallel which is now what divides the Northern communists and Southern capitalists. You see video footage of North Korea and it's crazy to see the direct parallels between them and Hitler's regime.
During the 50's we were right in the middle of the Cold War with the Soviet Union, and therefore an intense arms race. At a few points we even got to the brink of an all out nuclear war, which now seems to be a possibility forced back 60 years later. Let's be honest, how many countries do you think just disposed of their atomic weapons? I'm guessing not many. And because what North Korea is doing is a direct violation of the UN pact against nuclear weapons, the tension could keep escalating higher and higher just like during the Cold War.
