LGBT activist killed in Bangladesh - Kate Fehan 8th Period

Xulhaz Mannan and a friend were killed on Monday in Dhaka by a group armed with machetes and guns. Mannan was the editor of Bangladesh's only LGBT magazine and an advocate for human rights. A group linked to al-Qaida has claimed responsibility for these killings, as well as others. Atheists and people critical of Islam made up the previous victims. The attack shows that the groups are moving to new targets. This is extremely concerning because anyone who doesn't agree with the extremists could be next. While horrible killings like this may seem far away from the US, there are similar groups like the KKK that are still active and causing trouble today.

  1. I agree! Now anyone who doesn't agree with the extremists could be murdered next and that's very frighting.

  2. I agree with your analysis: this is horrific and similar at to the KKK. Hateful killings due to radical beliefs is a haunting crime.
