Summary:
Torrential rain on Sunday and Monday brought heavy flooding and many water rescues to the Houston metro area. Hundreds of homes, schools and government buildings as well as major highways were closed due to raging flood waters. With any areas reporting over a foot of rain, with some places reporting up to 20 inches, it brought around 1,200 water rescues in Houston and it's surrounding areas. The National Weather Service called it a historic flooding event, which fortunately only brought delays and no deaths or injuries.
Analysis:
To me hearing and experiencing events like these aren't very surprising ad show to be very common among southerners like me. I just think that because we are so accustomed to weather events like these it benefits us in many ways because we know how to react and what precautions to take in order to stay safe from these dangers. On the other hand though do have people who like to take chances during these natural events like these, that end up putting their lives at risk as well as others. Im not saying that its their fault, but I feel like as we learn from past experiences people need to act more wether aware to prevent their lives from being at risk. This rain event I think shows how unpredictable mother nature can be and how unmerciful her actions can translate towards the dangers "she" presents us. I am just glad that so far no major damage and deaths have been reported.

ReplyDeleteIt's kinda weird that this didn't happen to other parts of texas, especially considering Texas' weather history.
ReplyDeleteIt's great that Houston had so much rain because they are so dry for most of the year, but I feel bad for all of the lives that were effected and all the damage from the weather. -Mattie Whisler 9th period Flex
