Two Boston Marathon amputee survivors run 2016 race Jasmine Rodriguez Period 4

This article talks about two amputee survivors who took the challenge to finish the Boston Marathon. Although there were many obvious hindrances and doubts, they did not let their drive be stopped. The two survivors were part of a group of bombing survivors. They both ran for different funds to help students as well as other people who are in need of prosthetics.

This is similar to when African Americans were trying to overcome the challenge of discrimination. There were many obvious hindrances including a history of subjugation of blacks, slavery, conservative opposition, and more. Nevertheless, African Americans sought out various ways to try and overcome the challenge throughout the Civil Rights Movement during the 1970's. This included various non-violent protests, as well as violent approaches by the Black Panthers. Like the amputee survivors, they did not let the more likely possibility of failure stop them from trying to achieve their goal. Although the challenge of discrimination has not entirely been beat, African Americans and supports of equality continue to promote anti-discrimination and improve the problem.

  2. What a great story! It's amazing that they were able to run, and that they were able to raise funds for charities while doing so. -Claudia Anthony
