Please sir, more sleep? -Bethany Wolfe 3rd

Summary:
Scientists agree that teens who get less than 7 hours of sleep are more likely to engage in "risky behavior " and make poor decisions. The solution? Start school later. Because sleep is the third pillar of health, you generally feel and work better after a good night's rest. They reccomend that high school start no earlier than 8:30
Analysis:
Though Booker T starts at 9:15, it can still be difficult to get 8 hours of sleep. When I do get it, the day goes much smoother and I can focus more on the task at hand. No one wants to walk around like a zombie because they had to finish a paper and their school starts at 7:30. It also makes sense that when well-rested, one can make better decisions.

  2. As a student, I completely agree. I hardly ever get 8 hours of sleep anymore, and honestly when I am tired it is hard for me to retain information at school because i zone out.

  3. Matthew Homsher 9th- DISD apparently missed the memo because school next year is starting 5 minutes earlier. Classes are supposed to start at 9:10.

  4. I agree with Becca. I rarely receive more than 8 hours asleep anymore; therefore, I zone out and don't pay attention in school.

  5. Also it would help if classes that required a lot of thought (academics) were not in the morning because none of us are fully awake. There are also districts that don't have school on fridays or that don't have homework. It can be tough waking up at 6 am and going to bed at 12 am every night because of homework load and cluster activities.
