Goodbye Jackson by Matthew Homsher 9th

Summary: Treasury Secretary Jack Lew led a movement to take Alexander Hamilton’s face off of the $10 bill and replace it with a woman’s portrait. After receiving major criticism, Lew has now decided to replace the less popular Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. Andrew Jackson has been on the bill since 1928 and has a bad reputation with the American public for removing Native Americans from their lands and battling the Bank of the United States.  Although, the changes aren’t expected till 2030, Harriet Tubman has been the most popular replacement option in an online poll. She was joined at the top of the list by Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, and Wilma Mankiller.

Synopsis: This will be a huge improvement from Andrew Jackson and ironic, since Jackson moved people into captivity while Harriet Tubman freed them from it. It’s also good that the movement to take Alexander Hamilton off the $10 bill received resistance. Many have gone to see the musical “Hamilton” and changed their minds about the place he deserves in American History. It will be a huge step forward to have a person like Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill and by all rights, she deserves it.

  1. I was thinking that it was about time that they did this, because Jackson did horrible things. And it's a plus that they are replacing him with a female!
