Dozens Killed in Japan Earthquakes // Olivia Gillis P3

Like a lot of buildings in Mashiki town, Kiyomi Matsuoka's wooden house withstood the earthquake on Thursday, but not the magnitude-7.0 one that hit a couple days later. After the first shock, Matsuoka and her family evacuated, but her father insisted on staying with the family home - barley managing to rid of the debris when the quake on Saturday hit. Saturday's Earthquake took at least 32 lives and Thursday's took 9. At least 23 people are buried inside buildings. About 25,000 Japanese troops have been sent to help with rescue efforts and to deliver emergency necessities. The tremors caused extensive damage, overturning cars, splitting roads, and triggering a landslide. Power outages have affected 761,000 households while 396,000 homes are without water.

It's so sad to hear about such a tragic event happening and impacting so many innocent peoples' lives in so many terrible ways. The aftershocks are slowing down rescue efforts for those in need and lives are being lost by the hour. Hopefully more help can be sent to Japan soon and everyone can become more aware of the tragedy occurring so all whom were affected can be saved before it's too late.
