Flooding shuts part of Houston
By Adrianna Martinez
The flooding in Houston has caused the evacuation of many people and has knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses. Nine hospitals in the area are closed for patients because of the flooding. Residents of an apartment complex are being sheltered at a mall and crews have performed more than 1200 high water rescues. The city on an emergency website has stated this is a life threatening event and at least five people have been killed by the floods. This is a scary situation because rain and thunderstorms are forecasted for Houston through late Tuesday. The heavy rain will only increase the flooding and worsen the conditions in Houston. Also many residents are trapped inside their homes because the water is too deep for crews to reach them in high-water vehicles, so rescuers are trying to get to the people in boats.
