First Woman U.S. Combatant Chief, Lori Robinson by Brenna Hale(6th Period)

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter announced that General Lori Robinson has been nominated to lead the U.S. Northern Command. She will be the first woman in U.S. military history to lead a combatant command at the Pentagon, this position oversees all of North America. Currently, she is commander for the Pacific Air Forces. "... We have, coming along now, a lot of female officers who are exceptionally strong", said Carter. Last December Carter opened all combat roles in the U.S. military to woman, about 220,000 positions.
This article was written to inform the public about steps the military is taking to include and introduce more roles to women, and to showcase a very prominent role possibly being given to a hardworking military woman. This event reminds me of the increase in roles available to women during World War II. They grew from telephone operators to industrial workers and nurses overseas, and it took a while before women were given the opportunity to serve in the military. hopefully, this continues throughout the entirety of the military so that women are as equally recognized as men.

  1. I am glad that they are allowing women to have these military jobs. This shows how far the women's rights movement has come and how our society has changed over the years.
