Lula Gillespie was 28 and a mother of 2 in 1974. After she sent her kids to live with her mother, she disappeared. Police searched for her in Indiana, but gave up eventually- except for one. Recently he found her in a town in Texas under a fake name. Since she didn't do anything illegal by running away, the police can't arrest her. They aren't releasing the town or fake name, but they informed her children of her location. Her daughter plans to contact her and reunite.
It's strange to think that Lula Gillespie could abandon her life as easily as she did in 1974. But we have less privacy today. I'm sure that it's much more difficult now that government and social media have increased the amount of records kept on a person. Still, I wonder if the evolution of technology and record-keeping has initiated new ways of escaping like Lula Gillespie did.
