Clinton's speaks about new Supreme Court Justice- Isabella Montague 5th period

As you all probably know, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia passed away, and elected officials are debating whether or not President Obama should elect a new justice, or if it should be chosen by whoever wins the current presidential election. President Obama already nominated Judge Merrick Garland, but Senate Judiciary Chairman Charles Grassley and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell say that the new Supreme Court justice should be chosen by the next president, not Obama. In her speech, presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton said that the Senate Republicans have no reason not to allow the president's nomination to get a vote. She also warned that a Justice appointed by Donald Trump could be potentially dangerous and could undo some of America's progress. She also mentions that she still has a lead over Democratic opponent Bernie Sanders, but he is gaining momentum, which she intends to stop to keep her lead on delegates.

Honestly, I think that President Obama should be able to appoint a new Supreme Court Justice. Senator McConnell says that it should be chosen by the people, which can happen when they vote for a new president, but is he forgetting that America chose Obama when they voted for him? Twice? Also, I feel that it would be a lot time without a Supreme Court justice, because the next president won't be sworn into office until January of 2017. However, we want to avoid the same circumstances that existed in the 1970s, where President Nixon was unhappy with Cheif Justice Warren Burger and the Warren Court. Everyone should be harmonious and should work well together so that they can get things done.

  1. I think that Obama has proven himself as trustworthy. I think that any democrat would appoint garland, and it seems quite unlikely at this point that a republican will be elected due to Donald Trump........

  2. I think it's funny how people only want the process of electing judges to be changed when Obama tries to choose someone they don't like.

  3. Merrick garland is a good man who has dedicated his life to serving us and to deny his nomination is simply disrespectful
