Trump: U.S. should rethink NATO involvement// Arianna Sotero

On Monday night, the remaining presidential candidates appeared on CNN to discuss issues like foreign policies and their own political futures. Donald Trump stated that he thinks the U.S. should rethink their involvement in NATO because the alliance costs too much money. Later in the interview, Trump attempted to cover up his remark and said that the U.S. should not decrease their involvement with the alliance but they should decrease spending. Even so, Trump's statement could spur lots of tension and anxiety among the Western foreign policy establishment.

The U.S. has been involved with NATO since 1949 and the U.S. has been apart of many operations with the organization. It is interesting to think about what the nation would be like without being involved in NATO, or if anything would change at all. I would also like to hear what other candidates have to say on this topic.

  1. Matthew Homsher 9th- The NATO alliance is a treaty alliance with our closest allies, and if Donald Trump's goal was to endanger American foreign policy, he's just hit upon one of the best ways to do it.
