This article caught my attention because it's talking about a period in history that we just learned about. Donald Trump said in an interview with the New York Times that he thinks the best era in American history was during times of military and industrial expansion and to him the time that best emulated this was in the early 1900s and again in the 40s and 50s. Trump said, " [It was a time where] we were not pushed around, we were respected by everybody, we had just won a war, we were pretty much doing what we had to do."
I agree that both these times are fascinating and definitely have some high points of American history such as the Civil Rights Movement and the second wave of feminism. It's also good that Trump is looking back, seeing what worked and what didn't, but for all those great things there's a flip side. Both of these movements highlights strong, powerful, monumental people and times, but the reason that these things came to pass was because of the intolerance in this country. Also, the 50's were when we were just getting started in the Vietnam War, and that was the worst war in American history.
So no matter what Trump said there will be someone there to contradict it. I guess in this case it's kind of me. I'm curious as to which part of that time he was referring to. I think it would have been good if there was more specificity (and maybe there was and this article just wasn't including it) but like I said there are high and low points to all... people can just pick and choose what they like.
