4 Killed in Wrong Way Crash // Olivia Gillis P3

Four people, including two police officers, were killed in a wrong-way crash while driving down a highway on Saturday. The two officers are both in their thirties and had been on the job for a little less than a year. The officers were transporting a prisoner when their car was hit head-on by another vehicle going the wrong way down the interstate. Des Moines Police confirmed that the prisoner, and the driver of the second vehicle were killed as well as the officers. The identities of the four will all be released after their families are notified, and the crash is currently being investigated by Iowa State Patrol.

This story is an excellent example as to why it is so important to stay alert and aware while behind the wheel. There are so many distractions nowadays, whether it be cell phones, another passenger,  driving while intoxicated, and so many more. It's so unfortunate to think that although we don't know the details behind this crash, it probably could've easily been prevented and four lives could've been saved, if the second driver had been paying more attention while behind the wheel.

  1. This is sad to hear. I agree with you, a lot of accidents are being caused by careless distractions and all of these crashes could be prevented.

  2. I completely agree with your analysis. We are required to take drivers education before getting our license so we should know to pay attention the whole time while behind the wheel or bad things, such as this, could happen. Sending prayers to the families of everyone who was injured.

  3. How awful! And to think so much of this could be prevented by not drinking/focusing on a phone/paying attention to the rules of the road. :(
