Starbucks false advertising

Starbucks is now being sued for under filled cups.  On March 16 court records were filed in the US District Court of Northern California.  Siera Strumlauf and Benjamin Robles were the ones who filed suit for everyone who has bought a drink from Starbucks.  They say that Starbuck's latte recipes have been made to underfill the cups.  The filing states, "Tall Lattes are not 12 fluid ounces, Grande Lattes are not 16 fluid ounces, and Venti Lattes are not 20 fluid ounces.  Starbucks cheats purchasers by providing less fluid ounces in their Lattes than represented.  In fact, Starbucks Lattes are approximately 25% underfilled."  The suit continues to state that Starbuck's standardized recipes to cut prices.  Also that the cups provided are too small to hold the said amount of liquid.  They say that Starbuck's are trying to save money on their most pricey product, milk.  The state's false advertising law and unfair competition law were sited in the California suit.  Also the suit calls for compensation for anyone who has purchased a latte from Starbucks since 2009.
This suit reminds me of the Pure Food and Drug Act.  Even though Starbucks did not manufacture, sale, or transport misbranded or poisonous foods or drugs, they did falsely advertise the amount of product they were selling.  The act and this situation is not directly the same, but they do both include false advertisement.

How is Starbucks going to provide compensation to customers who've bought lattes since 2009, couldn't some random person claim that they need compensation?

  2. Honestly, to me, this is kind of a stupid reason to sue a very famous coffee company, but I understand why they did it. Anyways, I agree with Brenna. Starbucks will probably end up having to compensate millions of people who don't deserve compensation. They didn't really think this one through.
