45 year old Jason Dalton of Kalamazoo allegedly opened fire in 3 different locations, killing 6 and injuring 2. He worked as an Uber driver and had previously passed a background check. The Kalamazoo police department is still unsure of the motive for the attack as it seems so random. Uber is not to blame but has released a public apology on behalf of their employee. This raises the question of whether or not the background check was rigorous or not. If someone like this had access toeing alone in a vehicle with Uber customers, how many other murderers could be in the system?
This situation is similar to the Salem Witch Trials in that it is difficult to determine one's motives and wether or not they could be a risk one day. By planting the idea that criminals like this do exist in the Uber network, it places fear in the minds of Uber customers.
it is impossible to determine wether or not an employee will one day have amenity break but i do believe that Uber background checks should be a bit more rigorous in order to possibly prevent the hiring of other potential killers.
