Google's self-driven cars- Nicole Chatham 6th period

The article that I read this week was very interesting as it talked about Google's progressing innovation- the self-driven car. This car drives itself automatically, and now that safety regulators have given Google permission, these cars can be built without the features of a steering wheel, brake pedal or accelerator. The computer that controls the car is now considered the driver and according to this article, self-driving cars are safer than cars driven by humans. Although it's mentioned that these cars are still years away from going on sale, it's still pretty remarkable to see where this road is leading.

Analysis- I really think that this article is fascinating! I find the idea of a self-driven car amazing, as long as they are tested properly and proven to be safe! I can relate this article back in US history to the 1920s when the Model T. car first came out. Created by Henry Ford and through the help of the assembly line, the Model T revolutionized the automobile industry as it provided a more affordable way for many to drive. Just like this article, the Model T led to change in US society and the act of driving for the years to come. I can't wait to see how far this all goes!

  2. This is really fascinating, although I'm unsure of how I would feel without any control of the vehicle. Maybe I'll just need to try it out. But won't it be cool to tell our grandchildren about us knowing how to drive a car?
