In a recent article about the Zika virus, the author tries to comfort Americans about the rarity of outbreak. The point of view is that America has some of the best defenses against the virus that any other country, from screens on our Windows to contraception.
I think the author is trying a little too hard to comfort American citizens, but I understand the effort. The thing that was annoying about this was the consistent "nothing will go wrong in America" attitude, as well as the disregard to people who do t have the means to protect themselves from the virus.
Relating this back to the Red Scare, the Zika virus takes the role of Communism. People freaking out about the virus leads to chaos, just like the chaos that ensued during the Red Scare that led to the Palmer Raids.

People should take the threat seriously but not to the point where you freak out or not care at all.

I agree. The whole don't worry attitude makes people a bit paranoid and the virus is a pretty big deal I definitely don't feel like we should turn a blind eye to it
