Court Cases affected by Scalia's Death By: Luis Ceja

Now that Scalia is dead several court cases could be left undecided with many likely to have a 4-4 count on the current 8 person supreme court until the vacancy is filled. These cases with a 4-4 tie means a lot of important cases will go undecided. The ruling made by the lower court stands in these cases. Today I'm going to go over a couple of those cases. First there's the Friedrich's v. California teachers association. This case is now likely at a 4-4 vote. The funny thing about this case is that the lawyers working for the man fighting the unions told him to let the teachers have the state win so the can appeal to the supreme court where they had a better a better chance in front of the conservative battle. Because of the ways 4-4's work the teachers will win simply by default. The next is Evenwel v. Abbot The issue of redistricting has been around for decades but has been avoided by a supreme court. This descision could hand over some of the power the gop had over the house if redistricting policies went to the state. Finally taking on this issue might allow some more actual democracy or life and choice. Maybe just maybe we can reach some policies. That's the hope for this this altered court though. We'll just have to see what happens.
