15-Vehicle Pileup Shuts Down U.S. Highway 75 North of Dallas- Ausia Jones

A multivehicle crash in Melissa, Texas, shut down U.S. Highway 75 southbound Friday morning. The accident, which happened about 40 miles north of downtown Dallas, involved two semis and 13 cars. Snow was reported in the area around the time of the incident, along with fog, and visibilities were down to 0.25 mile in spots. Since there isn't usually a ton of snow in Texas I think we tend to freak out when there's the smallest bit on the roads. In the northeast they have experienced multiple inches and they still managed to get to school and drive on the roads. I think its pretty funny how things change when it starts snowing in the south but I think everyone enjoyed the days off.

  1. It is interesting how a vast majority of people down here do freak out a bit, although it's still no laughing matter when people can get injured in wrecks like that. I can't believe how some people make it to school in worse conditions when this happens here.

  3. Its awful what happened because of the weather but it is also true that we here in Texas dont know the proper way to respond to bad weather. We rush to get away from it even if it may be safer to stay in place.

  4. I read this article about how it is actually quite dangerous when we get that weather down here, it had a lot to do with our environment not being used to it. Plus its not snow as much as It is ice and ice is super dangerous. Up north they will mostly get snow and even if they do get ice they have the tires to handle it. I do agree that we tend to freak out a bit too much but it is a real danger as you can see with this car pile-up.

  5. I agree that Texans are known for over-reacting to snow, ice, etc. However, that doesn't change the fact that this massive accident was a terrible incident.
