In the past week Libya officials and ambassadors have asked for permission from the United Nations to increase the size of its military. Libya has claimed it is struggling to keep back terrorist groups like ISIS and need a large military to protect the nation's people and wealth. The major fear of the Libyan government is that ISIS will take control of more oil fields in the country (ISIS already has control of two.) Libya has to ask the UN to purchase and produce weapons because there is currently an arms embargo placed on the country along with several other UN nations. The UN is so reluctant to lift the embargo because they fear it would lead to tension and possibly violence.
Franklin D. Roosevelt created the idea of United Nations before the end of WWII. Because of WWI and WWII the organization's goal is to keep peace between its members a majority of European nations. Most countries in the United Nations use the Euro which is a standardized currency between countries. The Euro economically connects the countries together. Also the United Nations has placed laws over member nations regarding the size of their military to avoid another major war. This is a reason why Libya has to get permission to expand its military.
