A case that happened over five years ago suddenly came back. Amanda Knox was accused of murdering her roommate in their apartment and was given a lengthy sentence in a Italian jail. Her Italian boyfriend has also been convicted with her. Four years after her first sentence, she was set free after being re-examined by the court. Then two years after that, she was put back in jail with a 28 year sentence. On Friday, the Italian High Court put this nightmare to an end, and set both of them free. She returned home to the United States. However, when the case was first started, Knox had accused another of the murder. The man then filed a lawsuit against her in which he won, and Knox now owes that man $54,000.
This case has been so long, that people forgot about it until last Friday. I think that if the court does not have enough evidence against something, they should just put the case on hold. The comparison between these two countries is that America would've held this one out much longer and not give a sentence, but Italy would and would continue to bring this case up again and again.

Italy is pretty harsh when it comes to jail time. But I agree, if there isn't enough information, the case should be held rather than put people back and forth in court as jail.
ReplyDeleteIt is always weird when these cases suddenly come back up, but if justice is served by all means bring back the case
