The Shaughnessy family lives in Wake Forest, North Carolina and they have been Catholic for several years and it is time to put up the Christmas decorations. The family were true Catholics; going to church every Sunday and following all the regulations of the religion. Yet one day, someone questioned their religion which made the father of the family question what they have been doing and try something new. The became Athiests and no longer follow the faith of any God although they still celebrate Christmas but consider it a time of family fun.
This Athiest act that is happening now traces back all the way to the Civil Rights Movement and for American life in 1940s-1960s. In the Soviet Union, they believed in communism where no one had a religion and everyone was equal. In America however, they wanted everyone to be individuals and unique so they encouraged a religion and the freedom to believe in anything that desired. As of today, they are more and more people who are becoming Athiests which contribute to the idea of freedom of religion and how it has evolved over time.
