Another example of how racism is still very alive in our country-by Alex Norton 4th Period

The SAE's fraternity chapter at the University of Oklahoma was caught on video chanting the racial slur, "There will never be a ni**** SAE. You can hang him from a tree, but he can never sign with me." President of OU, David Boren, responded in great anger and disappointment. He appeared at a campus rally and told students over a bullhorn, "I have a message for those who have misused their freedom of speech in this way. My message to them is: You're disgraceful. You have violated every principle that this university stands for." The SAE's national chapter suspended the OU members from the fraternity and threatened life long suspension for those who took the lead in the chant. David Boren believes that suspension is an option, but any punishment must be carefully directed if it is to pass constitutional muster. Boren told CNN that, "there is no room for racists and bigots" at Oklahoma. He also thinks that because of this event some students will leave the school and he thinks they should because, "this is not a place for racists." Students echoed this through social media. Many posted the picture that said "Not on OUr Campus"
It is absurd that we are in the midst of extreme racism coming uncovered presently. What many thought was tucked away at the end of slavery is still very alive. We must continue fighting for unity in our nation and equality.

  1. Racism has been a problem throughout world history and is many causes of disputes and arguments that have and are taking place in the world. It is a sad fact that people still and ever did judge a person by the color of their skin or religious beliefs.

  2. What's even more sad is that there are more incidents happening like this every day and we don't even know about it
