Summary: Broccoli is known for having plenty of vitamins and
nutrients but now these green stubby trees can help us with arthritis. A study
has proven that the substances in Broccoli have prevented the inflammation
joints and tearing of cartilage. They began testing with mice, feeding them foods
high in sulforaphane (a chemical found in broccoli.) This significantly reduced
the damage being done to their cartilage and reduced the signs of osteoarthritis.
They moved on to cow and human cells and found that the protection of the
cartilage was just as effective as it was on the mice. If this is proven
further then broccoli will be a key point in preventing the development of one’s
arthritis.
Analysis: I think it’s incredible to see food as simple broccoli
help prevent arthritis. It’s crazy to think about what we eat one day and then see
how much we’ve helped our body on that same day. However, by the same token,
what we eat on one particular day can take a large toll on our body. We can save ourselves from things like cancer
and heart disease just by making the right choices. Food can even determine little
things like whether we’re going to feel drowsy or be full of energy all day. The saying "eat your veggies" still lives on.

Totally agree with you there. Oh my gosh, at Travis we had this crazy French teacher who gave us all this healthy food propaganda every class and now I can't not check the ingredients of stuff I'm about to put in my mouth. I'm secretly a little grateful for that (shh don't tell anyone).
ReplyDeleteVery entertaining, helpful, and informational, Zane! Thanks for sharing.

knowing a dancer's body and the stress it puts on us, this is really helpful to know! I will be eating broccoli more frequently, so my hips don't fall off after this year!
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing! Arthritis runs in my family, so to know that there is something I can do to help prevent it is very assuring. Thanks for letting me know, I will be sure to eat more broccoli in the future.
