Zane Mallett - 5th Period - All Blown Up and No Place to Go. - 3

Summary: A man named Jonathan Trappe attempted to fly over the Atlantic Ocean suspended from 370 balloons. He took off from Maine on Thursday. After getting to the 470 mile mark he was 12 hours in and aborted his mission due to a technical issue. He had 60l of water, 38L of Gatorade 60,000 calories of food and weather gear as well as shelter.  After the float, he made a Facebook status posting the coordinates of where he landed. He crash-landed in a Canadian forest and is prepared to spend a night the dangerous mountainous region and then set off by foot and find a local community to get help.

Analysis:
To me this was an interesting story. I truly didn't much of a motive to do this. Although, it would have been a very impressive feat if he did complete his goal of flying over the Atlantic. This news article reminds me of when Diana Nyad swam from Florida to Cuba, except not as impressive and a lot cooler. I wish more people would do things like what Diana and Johnathon did.

  1. Felicia Padilla 5th period: For me, the most interesting part of this article was the concept of flying over the Atlantic while being suspended by balloons. It just gets me pondering, "who would come up with something like this?" I wonder if this guy got his idea from the movie "Up" otherwise I cannot really come up with a reasonable idea as to where someone would just think to do something so risky as this.

  2. This reminds me of the movie "Up". It's cool that this man would try something as interesting/dangerous as this, but it probably would have been better if official people were tracking him and stuff. Also why is he planning on spending the night on top of a dangerous mountain if he posted his coordinates on his Facebook? Shouldn't rescuers be able to find him sooner?

  3. This was such a cool thing when I read about it! It really impressed me that he actually had the nerve to try to do that. I don't think I would have the guts to do that. Everything about this story impressed me. Yeah, he didn't make it, but still, the fact he even tried has to count for something.

  4. I think more people should do things like this too! It's nice to hear these amazing stories in the news, when most of what we hear about everyday is killing and shooting. It's also pretty inspiring, not that people should try to fly over the Atlantic suspended by only balloons, but just that these people are living life to its fullest and not being afraid to strive for a goal.
