Over 300 dogs have been saved from dog fights in Alabama, Georgia, Texas and Mississippi which was the second largest fight in the USA. One dog in particular is number 917 who is only 8-weeks-old! Poor puppy.
These dogs range from all ages. The ASPCA and the local Humane Societies are doing all they can to teach each dog to love and become a pet, not a fighter. They found puppy number 917 on a heavy chain that weighed more then he did; and only 5 pounds! How sad is that?! Some dogs had such critical wounds that they had to receive medical treatment.
Police officers arrested 12 men on the scene of the fights. If the judge finds them guilty, they will face 15 years in prison! Those who were arrested have pleaded not guilty for the charges along with promotion of the fights and gambling. I think they should be put in jail longer.
Thanks to the ASPCA and local Humane Societies, theses dogs will learn to love and be loved. Hopefully each and everyone will find a home and live a happy life they deserve. It will take a lot o work but will be very rewarding in the end for the dogs.

How sweet! I find this to be very important given the fact that animals deserve to have certain rights just like humans.

ReplyDeleteI agree that these men should be put in jail longer, obviously they had no morals in what they were doing, and they should be adequately punished for the cruelty they put these dogs through.
ReplyDeleteWow! this is so good to here! It's nice to know people are doing something about these horrible fights, but when you think about it, 300 compared to all animals that go through this isn't a lot. I hope they continue to save animals from this kind of stuff.
ReplyDeleteI love that the government is taking efforts to protect animal rights. So many animals are abused, and it is good that these men were arrested. Besides the horrific idea of the abuse, dog fighting can actually be quite dangerous. Training a dog not to fight is going to be hard, but not impossible. Hopefully theses dogs will be able to be adopted!

This is such a sweet story, I love it! It's so good to know that people care about the animals in society. I hope they keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteThis article made me very happy. I'm glad that people are doing what they can to help animals. Usually you just hear stories about animal abuse and rarely does anyone take the time to teach a dog the right thing to do. -Nia Edwards 4thperiod
