"Gunman and 12 Victims Killed in Shooting at D.C. Navy Yard" (Melissa Kurtzman, 2nd Period)

Summary: This morning a man went on a shooting rampage at Navy Yard in Washington D.C., killing twelve people before being shot and killed by police officers. Reports say that he was able to get into the facility by producing official papers from his work as a military contractor. The man, identified as Aaron Alexis, was a former Navy reservist and happens to be from Fort Worth. Police are saying that they are still looking for a motive and are treating this as a criminal investigation instead of an act of terrorism. Alexis' police record include multiple charges in the past; originally, authorities believed that there were up to three gunmen with two loose in the city but that statement was never confirmed.

Analysis: It's so sad that these things happen in our country, especially to innocent people. I don't understand how people randomly decide to go on a shooting rampage. Right now, I'm just angry and upset and I'm sending my condolences to the families of the victims.

  1. I was just talking about this story with my family. It's one thing to go shoot harmless people, but it's another thing to shoot people that are serving for our country. I think it is unbelievable that he used to be a Navy Reservist and he is now killing the people that were once his peers. I hope they can find out why he did such a horrible thing and hopefully they can find if there really are 2 other men involved that they are caught and punished.
