Summary: There has been at least 27,700 people ticketed since 2009 for possession of marijuana or drug paraphernalia on federal land, such as national parks, forests, and monuments, even if those areas are inside states that have legalized recreational use of marijuana such as Colorado and Washington. The citizens are confused as to what to do because they are still fined/arrested for possession of marijuana even if they were following their state's laws and carrying way below the limit allowed.
Analysis: The Federal government is going out of their way to try to milk as much money from the citizens as they can.

Personally, I don't think marijuana should be legal at all. However, I don't believe it's fair to fine or arrest people with the possession of the drug if they are in that legal state. They should make the law more clear though to solve this problem.
ReplyDeleteThis is just another example of why officers need to back refrain from over stepping their jurisdiction, especially in cases involving drugs. I know they're trying to make their quota, but come on, don't you have better things to do than arrest people for pot in a state that allows the use of marijuana? We know it's only a matter of time before more states start legalizing marijuana, so officers might as well get used to not arresting people for possession.
