Darren Wilson Resigns from Ferguson Police Force- Alan Niño (2nd Period)

Darrren Wilson resigned from the Ferguson Police Force after he fatally shot an unarmed teenager. The reason for this was because the police force was receiving numerous amounts of threats of violence if he were to remain an employee. Many people believe that Wilson was "112 days too late." They believe he should have been fired a long time ago. The debate between race and law enforcement re-opened, believing that black males is the new target. Because of what he did, he is getting a lot of death threats. His home address was circulating throughout the internet. Wilson had to go into hiding and moved houses. Protesters clashed with officers and National Guard troops outside of the Ferguson Police Department. They stepped into the street and authorities rushed across to take them into custody. 16 people were arrested and one officer was injured.

This relates to APUSH because many people today do things for the safety of others. In this case, Wilson believed the safety of his fellow officers was more important. He didn't want the police force to keep on receiving threats because of him. For example, many presidents in the past took responsibility for what they felt was correct at that moment. Wilson had one of those senses and did the responsible thing by resigning and preserving many people's safety.
