4 Mothers Share the Pain of Losing Sons- Alan Niño (2nd Period)

Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, and Eric Garner have all experienced police brutality and racial injustice. All the mothers believe that if their sons were white, they would still be alive. Martin's mother later explained that the color of his skin and race is what caused his death. Sybrina Fulton, (Martin's mom) Lesley McSpadden, (Brown's mom) Samaria Rice, (Tamir's mom) and Gwen Carr (Garner's mom) all gathered and spoke about their son's final moments. As mothers and observers, they all agreed that this generation is killing humans at a younger and younger age to the point where they just want to say "Listen, our kids want to grow up, too." Carr is confident that her son's civil rights were violated. The mothers believe that because it's not happening to "them" [outside families], they don't quite get it. Rice found out about her 12 year old's son's death by saying how 2 boys knocked on her door telling her that a police officer shot him in the stomach. One of her daughters was then handcuffed and thrown in the back of a police car when Rice protested about the shooting. Fulton explained how each tragedy brings people together.

This relates to APUSH because there are many unfair trials where not everyone got there justice. For example, Cherokee Nation v. Georgia. The Indians didn't get their justice which caused the tragic Trail of Tears. There are more and more similar problems arising and I hope we notice that so we can put an end to all of this. The moms of the victims are very strong by sharing their stories and I hope all goes well with them and they get justice.

  1. This is really tragic. However, these moms are really strong for being able to stand up for their sons and tell their stories. Hopefully a lot of people out there will be able to open up their eyes and see that events like this need to stop.
