Police Officer killed by friendly fire Vincent DeLuna

Davies-285x245.jpg

It was a tragedy. A Lakewood police officer was killed in the line of duty on accident by his partner. While searching an area after being dispatched to a call of shots fired, Officer Davies was shot over a six-foot tall wooden fence. He was mistaken for a possible armed suspect. The reason I chose to write about this Officer is because I met his best friend while I was in Colorado for a National Police Explorers Competition. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Officers family as well as the Lakewood Police Dept..

The article on the Lakewood Police Dept. stated the following-

Shortly before 2:00 AM Lakewood agents were in the area of 19th Avenue & Fenton Street on an unrelated call when they heard shots being fired. Shortly afterwards one of the agents actually saw a subject firing a weapon on the front porch of a residence at 1940 Eaton.

Additional agents responded and contacted three male parties who were taken into custody. Prior to re-entering the residence to check for any additional occupants more agents arrived and began securing the perimeter of the house.

It was during that time that an agent who was outside the residence was shot. He was not transported and was pronounced dead on scene.

There were no other injuries to agents or residents in the area.

  2. that blows. i believe that some officers get too trigger happy, just because they are given a gun does not mean they can use it on anyone and anything. if the officer who shot the gun was a little more attentive, then maybe the life of an innocent man could have been saved.
