Trump Says Saudi Explanation of Journalist’s Death Is Credible, in Break With U.S. Intelligence
Summary:After the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the Saudi Arabian government took a long time to release an official statement, other than that they were not involved. They have since said that the journalist was killed in a "fist-fight" inside the consulate. National security organizations such as the FBI and CIA believe that Saudi agents were ordered by top-tier government officials to assassinate Khashoggi for his anti-government beliefs and writings. On Friday, October 19th, during a trip to an Air Force base, President Trump was asked in an interview whether or not he viewed the Saudi government's explanation as credible, to which he said he does, contrasting major homeland security agency's beliefs. Many people think that he is going along with the Saudi Arabian government's response in his hopes to end the war in Iran, so many business officials including Wall Street and technology executives in the private sector are boycotting their business in Saudi Arabia for the time being.
Analysis:
This article was written in Washington D.C. on Friday October 19th, 2018. This means that the information in the article is extremely close to the source and is very up to date. I had already read and heard about the death of the journalist in the Saudi Consulate, but now it is very surprising to me that the U.S. president is contradicting his own organizations that have very deep and accurate knowledge of foreign affairs and security. This relates to times in the past when the same person, President Trump contradicted the CIA in reports of Russian hacking and influencing elections as well as other conflicts with the FBI where Trump claimed that the Clinton servers were hacked by China. This audience of this article was intended to be all of the United States because they are all effected by the things that the president says, does, and chooses to believe. This article was written by Mark Landler and Eric Schmitt, who are White House Correspondents and senior journalists covering counterterrorism, respectively. These two are very informed and experienced journalists that specialize in the exact topic that this article was written on. This article was written to inform and keep Americans updated about the death of Jamal Khashoggi, as well as inform them about the political decisions happening in the U.S. in relation to the death. This article is important, because President Trump has contradicted spy agencies multiple times, and this is another that could have serious effects on businesses in America as well as relations with Iran.

Well informed analysis. I think that Trump probably shouldn't contradict the thoughts of other large governmental organizations so openly. Maybe he should have spoke to them about the situation before either side released a statement. It makes us look unprofessional regardless of the reasoning behind it.
ReplyDeleteOnly Trump would credit something like that. Kadar Price
