Sadie Schiermeyer School Walk Out

After yet another devastating school shooting, students are finally choosing to do something about gun violence. With aid from a group called March For Our Lives, students are planning a walkout on March 14th at 10 am across the nation. They want to draw attention to the real killer- guns. It is clear to those in the attack, and many other students in America, that it never would have happened if the shooter was not allowed a gun in the first place. The students are hoping they will bring about some sort of change so they don’t have to risk any more lives in the future.

I think this is amazing. We talk all the time about how something needs to change yet we never do anything. If we look at history, many of the laws and social reforms happened through events like strikes and walkouts! If it worked for them, it can work for us too.  I think our school should participate as well, or at least give kids the option to do so. It’s so exciting that our generation is taking matters into our own hands so we can live the lives we want to in the future.

  1. I agree that it’s another big step forward showing what really needs to be changed, and by taking it into their own hands, they are actually being seen.

Wanting to make a change by walking out is a beginning. I feel like this will definetly draw attention to the case and hopefully make a change.

  3. My school last year used to do walkouts all the time, I remember the one for the Women's March was huge.

  6. Yes, I think a walk out is a great idea. It gets the students involved in a cause they believe in.
