Openly Gay Teacher Fired from Catholic School
Recently a first grade teacher got married. She was fired from the Catholic school she taught at in Miami merely for same sex marriage. She was fired after posting pictures of her wedding on Facebook. Jocelyn Morfi was fired on Thursday. The principal of the school described it as a "difficult and necessary decision". Parents of students have been standing outside the school walls protesting the firing of Morfi. "She is a great teacher," one parent exclaimed. The school has received harsh backlash on the way they're handling the situation. The parents argued that Morfi's sexual orientation made no difference in her teaching capabilities and in no way make her anything less than a great person teaching their kids about community and love. Jocelyn said on Friday, "this weekend, I married the love of my life and, unfortunately, I was terminated from my job as a result. In their eyes, I'm not the right kind of Catholic for my choice of partner".
This is so sad to read. I can't understand why things like this continue to happen. I'm with the parents on this one. I don't think Jocelyn should be punished simply for marrying the woman she loves. It's great to see the parents exercising their rights and standing up for this wrongful termination. Lawyers are discussing what, if any, legal steps to take. I hope this terrible issue is resolved and justice is served.
