17 Redmond Gerard Takes Home Gold for Snowboarding-Victoria Gonzalez

Redmond Gerard, a 17-year-old Colorado teen, has scored the best out of all his competitors including Maxence Parrot and Mark McMorris in snowboard slope. In other words, his perfect landing on the backside triple cork 1440 for snowboard slopes earned him a gold medal in the Winter Olympics. Not only does this mean that he's the second youngest competitor to win in this category, but he's also the youngest receiver of a gold medal for snowboarding on the US team. This marks a huge feat in US sports history as well as a huge feat in the category. The Winter Olympics is certainly not something that deters Americans from succeeding but often puts us at a disadvantage compared to Norway, Russia, China and Canada due to their constant spirit in winter sports. The US thrives in athletics but succeeding in snowboarding gives the country a head start towards the most gold medals, possibly setting us up for overcoming our Russian opponents from winning most medals just as they had in 2014. With this and the potential figure skaters such as Bradie Tennell, and brother-sister duo Nathan and Karen Chen, the US team shows promise for these Olympic games.
