Manon McCollum - Pro-independence Catalans call for 'mass civil disobedience'

After years of protests and referendums for Catalan independence, the Spanish government has triggered the "nuclear option", dissolving the Catalan parliament. In the wake of this breach of power, Catalan left wing party CPU has called for "mass civil disobedience" until they are given back their rights.

I think that what the Spanish government is doing is atrocious, bordering on fascist. With a referendum vote of 90% post-independence, it is obvious that the Catalan people want to be independent, and their status as an economic hub shouldn't affect that.

In this situation, one can only think of the American Revolution and the similarities between the out of touch Spaniards and British. In fact, the crackdown of power and resulting civil disobedience in Catalan is perhaps even more valid than that of the American revolutionaries.
